Resolution 0512: UFP President Character

- Whereas the change in the governance structure provides for opportunities to change the actual governmental structure of the FRPG
- Whereas the current “character” president of the FRPG has been the same for several years (since 1998)
- Whereas the “owner” of this name never asked (but was rather ticked when it became a reality) to have an actual FRPG character as UFP President
- Whereas it is likely that the UFP would elect a new President at some point seven years after the current President was elected

Therefore let it be resolved that:

1) The current owner of the name of the present established Federation President find a means to end the presidency of this character.

2) The FRPG should conduct a series of elections to determine who the next Federation President (a NPC) is.

3) Individuals could create some bios of potential candidates, and a panel (appointed by the new council) could whittle them down to four or five candidates. Then there could be a primary election to determine the final two candidates (unless a character took 50% in the first election). Then a run-off would be held between the final two candidates.

Pros:

1) This finally gets my name off that damned President's spot, something I've been trying to do for some time.

2) It provides for a fleetwide activity (there could be candidates at starbases or planets units were visiting) that is simply part of a fun story and not serious, which would be a nice change after all that has happened in the last few months.

3) UFP President is then a pNPC that all writers have a stake in, any change in his/her status would have to be approved by the new council.

Cons:

1) There is some obvious logistic work that needs to be done with this. Such as establishing what a bio needs to include or can't include, and what the candidates can/can't be.

2) No doubt there will be some contention about how the process should work.
