Resolution 0209: Most Active RP Unit Award

Drafter: David Wells (Gateway Station)
Priority: Normal

The Federation (in our game) has lost its heirarchy. There is no longer a Flagship of the fleet, save in name only. This proposal might create an air of competition that no longer exists in the fleet. Everyone striving to be the top dog, if only for a time.

By taking into account the number of posts in a month and the average number of posts per player we might be able to spark a posting boom the likes of which the RPG hasn't seen in years. Additionally, we would need to take into consideration the length of the post. So that a unit with a few 6-page posts can be evaluated with unit with a great many 1-page posts.

Lastly, it would give a unit a trophy shelf, perhaps, and bragging rights for a time.

Here are the workings of the award.

Qualification:

1. A unit must have an average of 32 (you'll see where that number comes from in a moment) posts a month over the time frame of the award and/or since the last award. In a unit with 8 players, that is one post per week, per player or 32 posts a month. This is also the *bare* minimum post per player per week ratio set forth by the RPG.
2. A post must be a minimum of 6 kilobytes is size. Relative to my last post which was 4 pages in length that is roughly equal to 2 pages in length.

Considerations:

1. If a unit has writers that typically post so called "monster posts" it can seem like this unit posts litte in terms of numbers. Therefore, an post exceeding 4 pages or 13 lines may be counted as 1.5 posts.

Logistics:

1. Most windows-style programs (as opposed to unix based, text driven programs) will list the size of an email. It would be up to the ExO Council to compile the data and present the award to the respective RP unit.
2. This award will be given out every 4 months.
3. The ship would be mention either in the RPG newletter or in FedCom or both.
4. Finally, a suitable prominent place should be found on the main RPG website to allow this unit to be recognized quickly by visitors to the webpage.

Concerns:

1. The only main points in question that would effect the outcome of this resolution are:
* How often to give the award? 3, 4 or 6 months?
Six seemed too long and 3 seemed to soon. Mostly, from a paperwork standpoint...
* Minimum qualifications?
You've seen my reasoning above. There may be a better way, though...
* Minimum post length?
* Who handles the paperwork?
I chose the ExO Council because they already deal with awards for COs. But there may be a better group for this...
