Background:
The Nova-class starship was designed by Stephen R. Prest. The
Nova-class starship is one of the few starships to date that has the
ability to land and be relaunched. The Nova-class starship, however,
does not have the ability to separate its primary hull in case of a
catastrophic emergency. The sleek design of the Nova-class starship
allows it to achieve a cruising speed of Warp 6 and a maximum speed
of Warp 9.912. Unlike most starships, of similar size, the
Nova-class has condensed nacelles positioned on pylons aside and
slightly above the secondary hull.
The Nova-class vessels are also equipped with the new transwarp
drive. A transwarp drive propels a ship a speeds faster than Warp 10
through the use of a subspace field generator. The ship passes
through a subspace conduit and then attains speeds formerly
unattainable in normal space. The transwarp cruising speed is
Warp 10. The maximum constant transwarp speed of a Nova-class
starship is Warp 13.875. A Nova-class vessel has a maximum
transwarp speed of Warp 13.912.
The new biohull, or bioregenerative hull, matrix has been
incorporated into the Nova-class starship. The biohull system allows
the ship's bio-neural network to literally heal any damage inflicted
on the ship's exterior.
The Nova-class starship has an array of weapons to defend itself
with. Several Type X phaser banks line the hull of a Nova-class
starship. Three quantum torpedo tubes are located in the usual
locations. The culmination of technology and science over the years
has allowed for the development of the Nova-class starship. The
Nova-class starship's Naval Construction Contract Codes range from
NCC-7000, the USS NOVA, to NCC-7999.
Of the many Nova-class ships in existence, one has been chosen
for an extensive refit and attached duty to GATEWAY STATION 1. The
size of the class and the speeds available in the compact design have
presented a unique mix of abilities that are perfect for such an
assignment. This ship, the USS ETERNITY has been refitted to create
a ship of exploration, rescue and reconnaissance, yet still maintain
the abilities of the Nova-class Destroyer for patrol, defense and
blockade running.
The many cargobays of the ETERNITY have been paired with
transporter rooms for ease of access in emergy evacuation
proceedures. Each cargo bay is equipeed is over a hundred bunks,
that can drop down in three tiers along the wall, or be unfolded in
the center of the room. The transporters have reinforced buffers
and micro-enhanced processors allowing for rapid lock-on and
tranportation increasing the rate of transporter to an approximated
900 persons per hour.
The USS ETERNITY is currently under the commad of Cpt. James
Denneson of GATEWAY STATION 1.
