The following book is to be sent out to each class by the Senior Instructor assigned to them. =/\= Starfleet Academy =/\= Current Enrollment: 23,547 Students Staff: 504 Instructors Location: The Presidio, San Francisco, California, Earth (Founded in 2161) Motto: 'Ex Astris, Scientia' ('From the Stars, Knowledge') =/\= Admissions Annex =/\= This large, impressive, five-story building is the administrative hub of the campus. The front of the structure is almost entirely composed of transparent aluminum, which looks like glass, and overall gives the building the appearance of a smooth, streamlined rectangle. As its name indicates, students apply for admissions and scheduling here, as well as make appointments with guidance counselors. There are several conference rooms conveniently located here for staff meetings and briefings. =/\= Memorial Garden =/\= The center of the campus is the location of a large square courtyard and carefully manicured garden, used for outdoor studying, socializing or eating while sitting on one of the many benches there. Brass plaques are set along the walkways, each one noting a lost vessel in Starfleet's history. On occasion prominent people are remembered here as well, however, this is usually through the planting of, for instance, a tree rather than a plaque. =/\= James T. Kirk Command Center =/\= This is the center for command based classes, named after (almost) everyone's favorite legendary Captain. The walls of this pentagonal shaped building are created from sandstone, and 'command red' paint trims the doors and window ledges. It also houses the office of the Director of Advanced Tactical Training (ATT). =/\= Sciences Building =/\= This building has a unique trident shape, housing three wings; one for physical/chemical/astronomy sciences, one for medical, and one for psychology/social/alien culture sciences. =/\= Information Building =/\= A glorified library and data retrieval center, to allow students access to databanks and research materials. The building is completely 'staffed' by holographic assistants, who are directly interfaced with the highly computerized information. The design is a simple rectangle to allow for maximum utility of space, however the predominant use of flexiglass in the walls creates a clean, airy feel. Each of the four floors are all-to-wall carpeted in command blue. =/\= Cafeteria/Replimat =/\= This facility not only houses the standard replimat, it also contains various shops, restaurants, and nightspots. It consists of several buildings set together in a loose horseshoe, with an open area in the centre for mixing, socialising, or just soaking up the sun. It is perhaps the most colorful and diverse area of campus. 'The Launching Pad' is a favorite cadet hangout, specializing in earth cuisine from practically every country and culture on the planet. =/\= The Academy Banquet Hall =/\= This free-standing building is adjacent to the Replimat complex, and is specifically designed for ceremonies such as graduation, official addresses to the student body, and interplanetary seminars or visits from dignitaries. Most of the building exterior is composed of modern materials, but much of the interior furnishings and dais are antiques made of natural wood, some of which predates the founding of the Academy itself. =/\= Dorms =/\= The dorms are coed, separated by floor, with the first and third floors female and the second and fourth floors male designated. Normally there are two cadets to a room, and each floor has a common recreation and study area to provide for group socializing. =/\= Fine Arts Building =/\= A four story building overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, it serves as the center of artistic inspiration for the Academy. The first floor consists of two wings. The Right wing is an impressive dual level Art Gallery, here the students can see their works hung for the enjoyment of others. Whereas the Left wing consists of the Drama Department, including two Auditoriums, each capable of seating 300 students. They are laid out as reproductions of old time Opera houses. The third and fourth floors consist of administrator's offices, and class rooms. In the rear of the building is a small garden where the students can gather to find inspiration for paintings, and the like. =/\=Gymnasium=/\= The SFA Gymnasium is a collection of most of the Southern buildings. Fully equiped and state of the art facilities provide safe exercise for all. (There are *no* Holodecks in these buildings) Advanced Command Training Current Enrollment: 45 Students Staff: 11 Junior Instructors =/\= ACT Building =/\= This is one of the smaller structures on campus, an unassuming gray-toned rectangular building with two stories. The top floor houses the offices of the ACT Instructors and Administrative Personnel. The ground floor contains one or two multi-purpose classrooms for use in briefing, debriefing or mission analysis, and more significantly, the five holodecks where the training missions themselves take place. =/\= Dormitories =/\= The dormitories are located within the Regular SFA Dorm Building. Normally there are two Cadets to a room however there are four rooms per floor that may house up to four Cadets, and each floor has a common recreation and study area to provide for group socializing. The only notable difference between the dorms where ACT Cadets are stationed is a removable ACT door hanging. =/\=Cadet Differences=/\= ACT Cadets may be called upon by any of the Instructors assigned to Starfleet Academy without notice. In order to facilitate their recognition, ACT Cadets use bright yellow data PADDs for assignments and studying, they also have a bright yellow quarter inch strip around the right arm of their uniform. =/\=Cadet Privileges=/\= ACT Cadets are allowed entrance to all student-access areas of the Starfleet Academy grounds as well as the following regular Cadet non-admitance areas: THE CASKE AND GRILL NOVA SQUAD FLIGHT SIMULATION GROUNDS PERSONAL HOLODECK BUILDING =/\=Cadet Restrictions=/\= Cadets are not generally permitted to leave Academy grounds without special permission, however ACT Cadets may occationally leave grounds for brief time periods as long as they have notified their instructors prior to their depature. Travelling to the Caske and Grill is excluded from this provision. Cadets are expected to mirror the ideals of Stafleet at all times, even during off-duty affairs. Cadets must *always* obey the orders of senior officers. To download a simple text copy of ACT Book Four, please click here. |
