ACT BOOK TWO: PROTOCOL

The following book is to be sent out to each class by the Senior Instructor assigned to them.

Subject Line

MODERATOR: LOCATION: Scene * Scene -> Scene ("Title")

**Moderator = Where you are posted (example: USS WILDFIRE)

**Location = Ship, outpost, planet, city or building where the scene takes place (example: USS MILITIA) [Only note LOCATION if it is different from the MODERATOR]

**Scene = Where, inside the LOCATION, the action is taking place (example: Bridge)

**Title = Name of the post (example: "The Day's End")

Separators Within the Subject Line

" * " = A cut scene, a jump from one place to another (example: Bridge * Sick Bay)

" -> " = Watching the character move from one place to another (example: Bridge-> Captain's Ready Room)

Notes (Subject Lines)

1- Whenever there are three or more (3) LOCATIONS within a post, it is optional to write "Various" in the place of the LOCATION names.

2- Whenever there are three or more (3) Scenes within a single LOCATION, it is optional to write "Various" in the place of the Scene names.

Example of Completed Subject Line:

USS WAKE: Bridge * Sickbay: USS FYNA: Various ("If")

Header

The HEADER is the first thing within the text of a post. It includes the "Title" and "Continued From". The "Continued From" is always the last post you recieved before sending out your post and is not nessesarily a post you wrote.

Divider (Optional but recommended)
"Title of Post"
(Continued from: "Last post recieved")
Divider (Optional but recommended)

EXAMPLE:

###
"If"
(Continued from: "When Good Eggs Go Bad"
###

The "Big Three"

Location: Larger Location - Ship, Building, City or Planet*
Stardate: Time you started writing your post **
Scene: Smaller area within the Location where the action takes place

*Location - The name of ships, planets, and generally whatever generic location the scene takes place in should always be *all* capital letters (ie USS ODYSSEY or EARTH), when making a larger listing such as "location, city, continent, planet" the planet would be capitalized (ie Starfleet Academy, San Francisco, North America, EARTH).

**Stardate - The Stardate can be divided into three areas. The first is the Millennium, we write 2. to indicate that we are in the second millennium of the FRPG. The second is the date, we write the year, in this case 3, the month 04 for april and the day 15. Lastly we write the time in military format 1309 for 1:09pm.

Example of The Big Three:

Location: USS FRENCH
Stardate: 2.40815.1309
Scene: Bridge

-or-

Location: Federation Council, Paris, France, EARTH
Stardate: 2.40815.1309
Scene: Council Chambers

General Rules for the Main Text

1- Put a space between your paragraphs.

2- A new paragraph begins when someone else begins talking. Always!

3- Just like in the location of the main header, you should always capitalize completely a larger location such as USS ODYSSEY or EARTH.

Moving Between Scenes in the Text

When moving between scenes in the text of a post, there are a few things to remember.

1- If there is a break in the scene, place a small divider on the page and write the Scene underneath. Example:

---------------
Scene: Counselor's Office

2- If changing Location, place a small divider on the page and write the Location and Scene underneath. Example:

---------------
Location: USS FARAWAY
Scene: Ten Forward

3- If there is a change in time, for example nothing happens in your post for 30 minutes, place a small divider on the page and indicate a new Time Index. Example:

---------------
Time Index: 30 minutes later

4- Time Index may be added on the bottom of the change of Scene and/or Location. Example:

---------------
Location: USS FARAWAY
Scene: Ten Forward
[Time Index: 30 minutes later]

Punctuation Within the Text

"Text" = Spoken text, face to face
"Can you give me a hand" Smith asked his First Officer.

[[Text]] = Spoken text, no visual (Example: COMM Badge Communication)
[[Lt. Doe to Bridge... There's something down here,]] he called out, tapping his COMM badge.

{{Text}} = Spoken text, with visual (Example: Viewscreen)
{{I am 1 of 4. Resistance is futile,}} came the foreboding words of the Borg on the viewscreen.

*Text* = Emphasis on word
Jimbo shook his head in disbelief... he couldn't believe his old friend was a *Borg*.

**Text** = Thought or Telepathic Communication
**There you are Little One!** Maeli spoke telepathically to her daughter.

TEXT = Yelling
"CHRIS... NO!!!" Johnny screamed as he saw his friend fall off the side of the cliff.

Punctuation Within a Quote

End quotes with a comma if the sentence will continue with a -he said-, -she yelled-, -they sang-, etc. and if it would normally end in a period. (Example: "Come here for a minute," the woman said to the child.)

End quotes with the appropriate punctuation for questions (?), exclamations (!), and pauses/cutoffs (...). (Example: "Give me that!" he exclaimed.)

End quotes with appropriate exclamation if changing to a thought or action. (Example: "Here, take this." She smiled as she handed him a phaser.)

NRPG

NRPG stands for Non Role Playing Game, which is anything that the player wants to say to the other players. It does not involve the characters in active role play. NRPGs should be placed at the end of a post, before the signature and are optional. Although NRPGs are permitted within the text if placed in brackets, I do not recommend it as it takes away from the quality of the post <hint, hint...>.

Divider (Optional but recommended)
NRPG: Text

Name of player: Text directed at that player

Example:

-------------
NRPG: I don't know where this post is going, but it should be interesting to see how the storyline develops from here.

Jimmy: Hope to hear from you soon, I miss getting posts from you.

NRPGs may also be sent without posts, and should be indicated as such in the subject line AND on the first line in the text area. Such NRPGs are *never* sent to the MODERATOR.
